History
Clopay is a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial garage doors in North America, with a history dating back to 1859. Here are the key points about the history of Clopay:Clopay started out as a paper wholesaler in Ohio name the Bernard Seinsheimer Corporation, in 1859. During World War II, the company began producing blackout shades and changed its name to Clopay, an acronym for "cloth and paper".
In 1964, Clopay entered the garage door business by purchasing Baker Aldor Jones, an established garage door company. They began manufacturing wood garage doors initially.
Clopay was an early innovator in the industry, introducing the first steel overhead doors in 1980 and leading the market's conversion from wood to steel doors.2
Over the years, Clopay has continued to introduce new materials, finishes, and technologies to the garage door market, such as polyurethane foam-injected doors, the Ultra-Grain paint finish, and the MyDoor online visualization tool.1
In 2018, Clopay acquired CornellCookson, the leading manufacturer of industrial rolling steel doors, further expanding its commercial door offerings.5
Today, Clopay is the largest manufacturer of overhead doors in North America, operating four manufacturing plants and over 50 distribution centers across the U.S. and Canada.
